Outfit of the Week: Jan 5th

This week’s outfit of the week goes to a fun and flirty look featured on the blog Sincerely, Sonia.  Whether you’re going to class or hanging out with friends, wearing a leather miniskirt with stockings and a pair of black booties can be a great way to make any winter outfit more feminine!

On top, Sonia keeps warm with a white button-down blouse, a grey cable-knit sweater, and a black coat on top.  Seeing all three layers at once, including the collar of the white blouse, makes this look extra stylish!  The yellow neon necklace adds the perfect amount of color to keep this look exciting.  Last but not least, the pearl studs and sunglasses add a simple and sophisticated touch.  Check out the outfit below to see how you can get a similar look!

Baby it’s Cold Outside

With the holidays underway, it is time to break out those holiday sweaters and booties to keep warm from the cold. No, I am not talking about your grandmother’s holiday sweater with a Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer riding in Santa’s sleigh on it.  I am talking about this season’s biggest fashion rage: loose and baggy comfy knit sweaters that pair perfectly with short ankle booties.

In Vicky’s Style Fashion blog, she features a variety of winter outfits that will be sure to send you those warm holiday fuzzes. In one outfit, she pairs white denim jeans with a periwinkle blue trench coat, which is a great statement piece to add a pop of color this holiday season. To complete the look she adds brown suede booties, a striped sweater and a crisp white knit beanie to complete the wintry feel.

Baggy sweaters and booties are not only trending here in the US, but across the globe in Antwerp.  A collection of pastel colored knit sweaters and black lace up booties featured at a local H&M has left mannequins hanging off the edge of their seats.

Top 10 Summer Favorites

Here are a few pieces I think are perfect for summer. I am completely in love with this collection of matte lip colors from Revlon and I think a light yellow nail polish provides a subtle yet beautiful pop of color to any outfit.

I have always been fond of simple clothing, pieces with clean and precise silhouettes, but this swimsuit is an exciting way to play with patterns and colors that you might not have considered before.

As a general piece of summer advice, explore.

Explore clothing options that you have never worn before, such as matching shorts and tops, give color blocking a break. But don’t stop there, go out and find a place you have never been before. Summer is the perfect time to create the best of memories especially with those you love.

Enjoy the rest of your summer everyone ❤

Alexander Wang and H&M: Bastardization or Democratization of Fashion?

H&M’s Designer and Style icon collaborations are not new. Newly appointed designer for Balenicaga, Alexander Wang, will design a collection of apparel, accessories and lifestyle offerings to hit the approximately 3,200 H&M stores globally available Nov 6, 2014.

Mr. Wang is the first American designer to partner with the Swedish giant after over twenty other significant collabs including; Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Rei Kawakubo, Elio Fiorucci, Solange Azagury-Partridge, Comme des Garçons, Matthew Williamson, Jimmy Choo, Sonia Rykiel, Lanvin, Marni, Maison Martin Margiela, Versace and Isabel Marant, not to mention Style Icon partnerships such as Madonna, Kylie Minogue, David Beckham, Anna Dello Russo and Beyoncé.

Luxury fashionistas argue it’s a “bastardization” of fashion. An impossibility of transferring luxurious fabrics, aestheticsensibility and the exquisite workmanship of a $1,000 skirt to an affordable designer-inspired equivalent for under $30. Summarizing that fast-food fashion may offer decent budget friendly clothing but in no ways is it tasteful fashion. It’s the difference between vintage clothing and the classic vintage fashion.

Cheap and Chic fashionistas claim it’s time for a “democratization” of fashion. To be stylish shouldn’t be only for thick-walleted who can afford to pay top designer prices. They argue that a less expensive piece can look as rich as its designer equivalent and that money is not the only criteria for good taste. Good taste is good taste no matter what the price tag.

What are your thoughts? Is this a Bastardization or Democratization of fashion?

I personally cannot wait until November to shop the classic stylings of Alexander Wang for a fraction of his current prices! Feast your eyes on this updated Breakfast at Tiffany’s look:
