Paris Fashion Week: the most hectic, inspiring, eventful period on every fashion elitist’s calendar. This is not to say that I am a fashion elitist (sigh) though, I do have the pleasure of observing from a far–across the world, far–and gawking in silent jealousy.
Not only is #pfw a chance for top designers to grab the attention of fashion folk everywhere, but it is also a time to make a statement. People across the world are watching as these collections are displayed, and trust me, people are taking note. There are always a select few who understand this notion, and take full advantage of the peak in onlookers. Below I’ve included two of the most interesting statements made on the runway this week.
Rihanna’s Fenty x Puma
Rihanna certainly did not disappoint with her gorgeous debut of silk fans and light florals. A wonderful medley of a collection intermixed with delicate edginess–Fenty x Puma SS ’17 is different in that it encapsulates both looks in a marvelously discrete way.
Nobody can stop talking about the Dio(r)evolution that was observed on the runway this past week. In bold letters, the phrase “We should all be feminists” stood out beautifully among a stage of black, white, and tulle. During a time when the push for gender equality is bigger than ever, this statement was amazing and is sure to cause a ripple effect in the fashion world.
Lately, the Denim on Denim trend has been consuming my thoughts. Is it a current “do” or is it a dated “don’t”? Is the trend dead now that summer is abruptly ending? Should we be expected to fall victim to this fashion escapade or do we let it slip away into the grave of all other failed trends?
If you ask me, it is very much alive and it is 100% a trend to fall victim to. Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears did it 15 years ago (brief pause for the horror that was the early 2000’s) and look at the legacy they’ve left.
Now I’m not saying that in order to stay up on the current trend, you need to go to your nearest tailor and have an all denim dress made. (Although, that would be impressive and slightly iconic.) What I am saying though, is that you should not be afraid to flirt with the idea of an all denim outfit. Pairing some Madewell jeans with an Alice and Olivia denim jacket is not a terrible idea. In fact, it may be just the switch that you were looking for in your daily wardrobe.
Take a look at some of my favorite all denim outfits by some of the latest and greatest in the fashion world:
Here are some interesting denim pieces in stores now that I’ve thrown together. Head on over to the StyleChat App to shop and style some looks of your own! Don’t disappoint Justin and Britney, whatever you do.
Let’s be honest, to live chicly AND cheaply is not an easy feat.
Whether you’re a college student, an aspiring artist, an up-and-comer in the medical field, or just a San Francisco resident, you can (and should) read along to better your living space in a reasonably tasteful way.
In all aspects of life, there are at least two forking roads to every destination. On the elusive path to luxe living: How does a young, fashion-forward person forego the 14k gold-paved road and instead, go the silver-plated road? Will both roads lead to Anthropologie level in-house decorum?
Unfortunately, the road less traveled is silver-plated for a reason. There are no $200 hipster wall hangings on this road. Nor are there $36 candles (sigh). But don’t fret! While you’re still an up-and-comer in life, it is perfectly ok to religiously scout for deals and fight to the death for coupon codes. In fact, it’s necessary.
To aid you in your lifelong journey to the land of the 14k gold paved roads, we’ve compiled some of the most unconventionally conventional methods to curating the ultimate chic/cheap paradise.
Method #1: Plants are friends (and food)
In a quaint space, why wouldn’t you think to splash in some plant life? Adding some biological spice to your otherwise all white bathroom/bedroom gives it just the right pop of low-price luxury and crispness.
Method #2: Walls are giant canvases
Whether you decide to go freelance on a wall-sized painting, you choose 10-15 different pictures to hang up, or you simply want to throw a wallpaper up, you should seriously consider thinking of your walls as more than just the physical ends to your living space. A creatively designed wall is a weapon that can drastically transform a space from drag to fab.
Method #3: Eclectic is the New Black
When money is a deciding factor in your quest to swanky diggs, you don’t have time to confine yourself to one style/color palette. Who are you kidding, you don’t have time to conform at all! Use carpets as tapestries, magazines as coffee tables, musical instruments as wall pieces. Throw some of those cool rock/butterfly collections on a a shelf. You might as well gather up some childhood memorabilia in the mix too, why not? Eclectic is cool people, embrace it.
Despite your occupation, income, square footage, you–yes, you–deserve to come home to a space that looks and feels like home. In more trite terms, the width of your wallet does not define you! (my apologies for that one, had to get it out of my system)
One day you will be on the coveted golden road to greatness. Until then, make the silver-plated road as shiny as you can.

This week’s outfit of the week goes to a look featured on the Oh Hey There Rachel blog. The look features three of the current hottest trends: suede skirts, white lace, and leather moto jackets. Rachel tucks her white short-sleeve lace top into her high-waisted light brown suede mini skirt. Her black leather booties match perfectly with her black leather moto jacket. She adds to the “rocker-chic” vibe of the jacket by wearing a pair of blue reflective sunglasses. She keeps her jewelry subtle with a pair of gold triangle earrings. This Winter season the selection of handbags is fresh, fun, and diverse. Rima Kh, from fashionisers.com lists the top trends in handbags this season.
Rima mentions that although this season we’ve seen more small and medium sized bags, there are still big bags to choose from in certain designer collections like Ralph Lauren or Moschino. Messenger bags and shoulder bags were a hit on the runways of some of the top designers, including Marc Jacobs, Versace, and Christian Dior. These bags are great because their super comfortable and it’s so much more convenient to wear a purse over your shoulders.
If you prefer to hold your handbags by hand instead, your in luck because satchels made a statement this season in beautiful prints and fabrics. Whether you want snakeskin in a bold color, or an intricate printed design, there’s lots to choose from this season in satchels.
If you’re looking for more of a professional bag to suit your professional look, opt for one of the many briefcase bags we’ve seen this season. You can find these bags from designers like Roberto Cavalli, Hugo Boss, and Dolce & Gabbana.
Perhaps you want a handbag that is a bit crazier. Opt for a bag in a neon color. Like Rima points out, if the sun isn’t shining during the cold, winter days, these bags will give you a little bit of light in your life! Just be careful matching these bright bags with your outfit. Try pairing them with a neutral-colored outfit so that your outfit doesn’t become too distracting.
Next on the list for handbag trends this season are bags with a fringe. If you’re going for that slightly rugged, Western vibe these bags are the perfect fit.
Last but not least, handbags with chains are making quite a splash this season. My personal favorites are designed by Stella McCartney. With a myriad of styles, colors, and sizes to suit any taste, these handbags are the perfect choice this season.
