Outsidelands 2016: StyleChat Edition

If you’re a San Francisco native, a music lover, a festival lover, a combination of all three, or just the average fun-loving human, you will probably be in attendance at this year’s annual Outsidelands Music Festival from August 5-7.

With a week left until Ranger Dave welcomes us all into his loving lands of camaraderie, the tension is on to string together your funkiest fits.

Most likely, you A) have all of your outfits picked out B) have one or two cool pieces but nothing crazy or C) have a feeling you’ll be sporting your birthday suit during the 3 day extravaganza (it’s legal there).

If you’re an A person, well you’re an A person and you don’t need my help (go you). You B people, I understand your pain. At least you’re not completely lost? Now for all you C’s, listen and listen well. The key to serving looks at OSL is really quite simple; be yourself. That’s it! Fascinating, huh?

The beauty of OSL is that it is in San Francisco–a city built off of acceptance, funk, and freedom to dress however you please. Thus, the uniform for one of the city’s largest events is mirrored from SF’s greatest value:individuality.

With that being said, if you feel the need to drop $1,000 on some sweet ‘fits to feel yourself, do it! If you’re planning to dig into the chasm that is your mother’s closet, DO IT! There are no rules, no expectations, and no real judgments from anyone in the crowds. Take this festival weekend as an opportunity to really let yourself unwind–you know that Ranger Dave wouldn’t want it any other way.

As an OSL attendee, here are some pieces I’ve been scoping out to make me feel like myself all weekend long. OH and the best part about all of these looks: I shopped them all on the StyleChat app. It made my eclectic taste soo much easier to appease!

From top, left to right: Josefina Boyfriend With Destroy in Bright Blue Bell (7forallmankind.com/$129.00), Denim Shift Dress (forever21.com/$19.90), CHLOE CROPPED DENIM JACKET (aliceandolivia.com/$695.00), Frasier Sterling Night on the Tiles Choker (nastygal.com/$70.00), Flawed Leather Wrap Bolo (freepeople.com/$78.00), Anita K Barred for Life Sterling Silver Collar Necklace (nastygal.com/$60.00), Nasty Gal Well Versed Off-the-Shoulder Top (nastygal.com/$68.00), That’s a Wrap Top (freepeople.com/$98.00), Low Tide Off-the-Shoulder Top (nastygal.com/$48.00), Moondance Skirt Set (freepeople.com/$228.00), Cecile Ankle Boot (freepeople.com/$168.00), Gauze Overall Shorts (forever21.com/$17.90), Signature Loafer (freepeople.com/$128.00),  Magic Tapestry Boot (freepeople.com/$178.00)

Enjoy the festival, folks. Make me (and Ranger Dave) proud.

Decorating On A Dime

Let’s be honest, to live chicly AND cheaply is not an easy feat.

Whether you’re a college student, an aspiring artist, an up-and-comer in the medical field, or just a San Francisco resident, you can (and should) read along to better your living space in a reasonably tasteful way.

In all aspects of life, there are at least two forking roads to every destination. On the elusive path to luxe living: How does a young, fashion-forward person forego the 14k gold-paved road and instead, go the silver-plated road? Will both roads lead to Anthropologie level in-house decorum?

Unfortunately, the road less traveled is silver-plated for a reason. There are no $200 hipster wall hangings on this road. Nor are there $36 candles (sigh). But don’t fret! While you’re still an up-and-comer in life, it is perfectly ok to religiously scout for deals and fight to the death for coupon codes. In fact, it’s necessary.

To aid you in your lifelong journey to the land of the 14k gold paved roads,  we’ve compiled some of the most unconventionally conventional methods to curating the ultimate chic/cheap paradise.

Method #1: Plants are friends (and food)

In a quaint space, why wouldn’t you think to splash in some plant life? Adding some biological spice to your otherwise all white bathroom/bedroom gives it just the right pop of low-price luxury and crispness.

Method #2: Walls are giant canvases

Whether you decide to go freelance on a wall-sized painting, you choose 10-15 different pictures to hang up, or you simply want to throw a wallpaper up, you should seriously consider thinking of your walls as more than just the physical ends to your living space. A creatively designed wall is a weapon that can drastically transform a space from drag to fab.

Method #3: Eclectic is the New Black

When money is a deciding factor in your quest to swanky diggs, you don’t have time to confine yourself to one style/color palette. Who are you kidding, you don’t have time to conform at all! Use carpets as tapestries, magazines as coffee tables, musical instruments as wall pieces. Throw some of those cool rock/butterfly collections on a a shelf. You might as well gather up some childhood memorabilia in the mix too, why not? Eclectic is cool people, embrace it.

Despite your occupation, income, square footage, you–yes, you–deserve to come home to a space that looks and feels like home. In more trite terms, the width of your wallet does not define you! (my apologies for that one, had to get it out of my system)

One day you will be on the coveted golden road to greatness. Until then, make the silver-plated road as shiny as you can.

Let’s Neckcesssorize

XsRFknF.png

It’s no secret the neck scarf has become the biggest accessory of the season. This look has plenty of 70s flavor, but the real question is how do we use this trend to separate ourselves above the rest? Think outside the box with these these très français outfit necessities and connect even more varying aesthetics: think biker-girl-meets-bohemian, in the words of Refinery29.

Try these scarf looks with the classic leather jackets over overalls, midi-skirts, or dresses, all toughened up with some ~neckcessory~ flair. Each look, regardless of how different it may be, was tied together with the simplest of accessories- and one that definitely won’t break the bank. Check out our favorite scarf options on your very own StyleChat feed!

The Hottest Trends from Milan Fashion Week

Looking for a little style inspiration? The 2015 Spring/Summer Milan fashion week impressed us with bold colors, feminine designs, sleek cutouts, and slinky silhouettes. Fashionista.com points out some of the hottest trends we saw that week. First, we took a ride on the softer side with designers from Roberto Cavalli to Gucci, featuring sheer ruffled dresses in feminine pastel colors.

The Milan runway shows featured colors all over the spectrum: from soft and pastel to dark and bold. Green was a standout color being featured by many designers including Prada, Marni, and more. From army matte greens to shiny metallic aqua greens, this color was all over the runways in fun and refreshing ways!

Many of the runway shows turned up the heat with dresses and blazers featuring side-midriff cutouts. While we’ve seen cutouts a lot in the past couple of years, these outfits featured cutouts in a whole new way, making us rethink our standard blazers.

Last but not least, the runways featured looks with shimmering metallic silver, sometimes from head to toe! While I couldn’t imagine sporting a pair of shiny silver stretch pants, the silver dresses would be a cool, sexy alternative to your typical little black dress look.
