This week’s outfit of the week highlights the power of statement pieces. Karolina from the Karamode blog, shows how a red coat and bag can make a neutral outfit come to life.
To help pull this off try pairing a statement piece with a casual, neutral outfit, and see what happens to your look! Everyone has those days when you just want to be casual, comfy, and not put that much effort into your look. Throw on a colorful statement coat overtop of the outfit to create a look that is surprisingly spectacular!
For this look, Karolina paired black leather tights and a comfy grey turtleneck. She accessorized with a simple gold necklace chain, a black wide-brimmed hat, and a red satchel. Last but not least, that statement red coat and a pair of high-heeled black booties. Thanks to Karolina for helping us be stylish and gorgeous in no time!

Dressing for fall can be a bit tricky sometimes because it’s hard to predict the weather. We still get those days of warmth and sunshine, but on the other hand, mornings and evenings can be quite chilly!
Prepare for all kinds of weather by layering up! Rebecca Ramsey, writer for NYmag, provides some tips on how to layer Fall jackets.
First, try wearing a trench coat. They’re great because they’re lightweight and can easily transition from summer to Fall. Focus on colors like navy, gray, or black because they go with almost anything.
Second, try wearing a jean jacket around your waist. I’d recommend this for more casual occasions. Ramsey suggests a mid-blue wash. I think a jean jacket with a little bit of fading can also kick it up a notch.
The best part is, when it’s hot you’ll look cute with a jean jacket around your waist, and when it’s cold, you look casual and relaxed wearing the jean jacket the traditional way.
Another look you should try is the double-breasted blazer. Ramsey suggests focusing on colors like navy and gray because they can look good in any season.
If you’re looking for something longer, try a long duster coat. Just beware that sometimes this style of coat can be a bit overpowering. If you’re tall then you’re in luck because it won’t look like you’re being swallowed up by a coat!
Ramsey suggests opting for a color like cool lilac or a deep, dusty pink. These colors will bring out your softer feminine side in no time!
Last but not least, if you’re not up for a full on jacket, opt for an oversized sweater. They look great paired with a dress or a midi skirt! Oversized sweaters can make an outfit look casual and cute, while keeping you warm and toasty!
This week’s outfit of the week goes to Sartorial-Revenge’s layered look. This blog shows us how to layer pieces for a warm and cozy Fall outfit. Start with your favorite pair of black tights and pair it with a white tunic blouse. To fight off those cold mornings throw on a black vest or black sweater over top of the blouse. For the last layer opt for an oversized dark grey jacket or cape sweater. Look for ones that have wide arms so that the layers underneath will fit into the sleeves. Depending on the weather you can wear the jacket open or closed. To finish off the look, add a silver or grey clutch to the mix. The best part about this outfit is that you can shed the layers as the sun comes out.

Sarah Mower, of Vogue.com highlights the best part of Miuccia Prada’s Miu Miu Fall 2014 ready to wear collection: it’s feminine and satisfyingly practical!
Miuccia Prada steps out on the ledge to showcase runway designs that have a sense of practicality to them, but she does so in a way that doesn’t compromise any sort of style or beauty. Let’s not undervalue the true brilliance of Miuccia Prada’s Fall 2014 collection. Who knew that coats could be this sexy? Her ability to make a windbreaker feminine is nothing short of spectacular and I’m sure, very much appreciated. She incorporates shine and shimmer, feminine pastel colors, and short hemlines in a way that is not just chic, but also very relaxed.
There is something to be said about a runway show that satisfies all your needs and desires. Miuccia Prada proves that there is no need to compromise functionality for fashion. She showcased cable knit sweaters that were laid back and beautiful.
My favorite is the pink, mauve, and white pullover sweater paired with a short red leather miniskirt. This outfit reconfirms that making a sweater look pretty and date-night worthy, is definitely attainable. Until viewing this collection I didn’t think coats could be portrayed in such an attractive light.
The collection ambitiously combined multi-colored patterns with solid colors to create a color-block effect. Each coat I saw made me even more eager to see the next one, until I was almost salivating in anticipation. All I can hope for now is that product developers will be inspired by this collection and will use it as their muse for creating next season’s in-store collections. If I have ever seen rain boots look this cute, I would have invested in a pair a long time ago. Cities that aren’t blessed by warm weather all year round, will rejoice to see coats that don’t drown out the shape of a woman with dull colors and lack of originality, and will be pleasantly surprised to see rain boots that have a high heel.
The color palette of Miu Miu’s collection is inspiring, refreshing, and freeing. The metallic pastel pinks, purples, blues, and gold are so decadently invigorating paired together in classy, yet seemingly effortless combinations. Thank you Miuccia Prada for reinstalling my faith in the potential of a windbreaker to look attractive. Like wine and cheese, this collections makes some of the best pairing choices to create outfits that are just the right amount of feminine, sexy, and cheerful.
