5 Dining Pieces Every Hostess Needs for their Dinner Parties

Are you looking to host the best Thanksgiving party at your place this year? While the guest list and the food are wildly important, we all know that décor and presentation matters too!

Although many may say that what you serve is more important than what you serve it in, there’s still nothing wrong with going above and beyond by investing in some great classic serving pieces.

Here are five versatile pieces that will not only be helpful for this Thanksgiving, but will also work for any future event you may host in your home.

The Cake Stand

Let’s get down to the main event: dessert. Whether you made your pie from scratch or bought it from the store, you can make it look even more enticing by placing it on an elegant cake stand.

Multi-Size Serving Bowls

Now that we’ve got dessert covered, it’s time to figure out what you’re going to use to serve your main-course meal items. Between salads, roasted veggies, and potatoes, having multiple bowls in multiple sizes will definitely come in handy! These rustic metallic bowls from Bed Bath and Beyond will not only be practical, but will also help make your table look great!

The Ice Bucket

In terms of convenience, having an ice bucket will always come in handy when you’re hosting a large party. The fridge will inevitably be packed full of food and drinks, so why not use an ice bucket at the table to help with the chilling process. It’s functional and adds an elegant aesthetic.

The Pitcher

Nobody wants to be running back and forth to the kitchen every two seconds to fetch water for all your guests. Keeping a pitcher of water, juice, or iced tea on the table is a great easy way to make your job as hostess a little simpler.

How to Be A Fashionable Hostess this Thanksgiving

Being the host of a large holiday dinner can be stressful at times, but it can also be very rewarding and fun. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to seat so many people, how you’re going to decorate the table, and of course, what food you’re going to serve.

First, you must pick your color scheme. Are you craving warm fall tones like orange, beige, rustic brown, or natural green? With this color scheme you could use your left over pumpkins from Halloween as decorative pieces. Orange napkins and gold-detailed silverware will go perfectly with your delicious pumpkin pie.

For the centerpiece, all you need is a simple design. After all, everyone will be too focused on the food to even notice, right? Think about nature as your inspiration. Use fake greens, pine cones, leaves, and/or fruit to design your own beautiful creation.

Perhaps rustic orange, burnt brown, and beige are too simple for your taste. Make your table more colorful by adding one bright color to your rustic, harvest color theme. In this example from House Beautiful, a hot pink accent is used all throughout the décor.

If you’re looking for a table runner, check out these three fall-inspired ones from Bed Bath and Beyond. All of them would look great layered with your colorful centerpieces and rustic-inspired serving dishes.

Now that you’ve got inspiration for your thanksgiving dinner party décor, it’s time to think about all the yummy food you’ll serve.

Halloween Costumes that will Make you Nostalgic for your Childhood

Smell that? The wonderful smell of sugar and spice, pumpkin chai, cinnamon vanilla latte (or something like that) is usually the first thing we encounter when we walk through the doors of our favorite coffee shop in October. It’s the smell that reminds us that Halloween is right around the corner. It’s time to carve out our pumpkins, buy those yummy little chocolates we see piled high in the grocery stores, and think up a fabulous costume idea.

First we have to decide on a general theme. Do we want to be scary? Sexy? Funny? Weird? Creative? The choices are endless! Why not try a costume that brings us back to our younger years? An article on Popsugar gives us some great ideas for costumes that will make us nostalgic for our childhood.

First on the list is Mrs. Doubtfire. Put on a white blouse with burnt stains, carry a couple cooking lids, and all the millennials at the party will know exactly who you are!

Perhaps you’re looking for something a bit cuter, softer, and furrier? What better way to indulge in your childhood than dress up as your favorite care bear! Pick your favorite color fur, choose your superpower symbol, and you’re ready to go!

Tips for Finding the Perfect Dress for New Years

New Years is quickly approaching and the search for a dazzling dress is underway. Kerrie Mitchell Burke writes an article for StyleList.com giving us some tips to follow when searching for the perfect dress this holiday season. Everyone knows what it’s like to be racing through a crowded mall trying to find a suitable dress. Instead of settling for one you found in a hurry, you can follow these tips to find the dress of your dreams.

Kerrie advises that you remember the three C’s: classic, chic, and confident. A classic dress is one you can imagine yourself wearing for several years. I’ll admit that it’s easy to get persuaded into buying a trendy and flashy seasonal dress, but you might regret it next year when you discover that a whole new look is in fashion and your expensive dress is now out of style.

The second important C stands for chic. Looking chic is all about dressing modern, sophisticated, and flirty. There’s nothing like a little black dress to make you feel classy and chic. The silhouette and style options are endless. There are corset dresses, A-line dresses, and many more.

The third C stands for confident. Don’t forget to look for a dress that suits YOU the best. Think about your hair color, your skin tone, and your body type, and then find the dress that is most flattering for you. If you feel confident, you’ll look confident. If you want the dress to be very versatile, opt for one that is about knee length or just above the knees so that you’re not stuck going to a work event with a dress that’s too short. A dress with an open back can be very versatile because it’s sexy for a fun party, and it can easily be covered up with a sweater or jacket for a more business formal event.

Baby it’s Cold Outside

With the holidays underway, it is time to break out those holiday sweaters and booties to keep warm from the cold. No, I am not talking about your grandmother’s holiday sweater with a Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer riding in Santa’s sleigh on it.  I am talking about this season’s biggest fashion rage: loose and baggy comfy knit sweaters that pair perfectly with short ankle booties.

In Vicky’s Style Fashion blog, she features a variety of winter outfits that will be sure to send you those warm holiday fuzzes. In one outfit, she pairs white denim jeans with a periwinkle blue trench coat, which is a great statement piece to add a pop of color this holiday season. To complete the look she adds brown suede booties, a striped sweater and a crisp white knit beanie to complete the wintry feel.

Baggy sweaters and booties are not only trending here in the US, but across the globe in Antwerp.  A collection of pastel colored knit sweaters and black lace up booties featured at a local H&M has left mannequins hanging off the edge of their seats.
