The Most Stunning Looks from the 2015 Met Gala

This past weekend we saw some of the most stunning dresses hit the red carpet at the annual Met Gala, which is a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. It is a night when Hollywood’s A-list stars come together to celebrate fashion at the grand opening of the Institute’s fashion exhibit. In a Forbes article, Vanna Le highlights the hottest looks and two of the main color trends from the night: red and gold.

Anna Wintour, Reese Witherspoon, Amal Clooney, and Vanessa Hudgens are just a few of the celebrities that looked dazzling in red. Amal Clooney’s Maison Margiela gown was by far a favorite! The layers and layers of over-the-top ruffles made her look as if she was floating across the red carpet.

Reese Witherspoon took the opposite approach with a very smooth and sleek red strapless dress with sky-high slits in the front. She wore the most stunning diamond collar necklace and ravishing red satin sandals. Reese turned to a classic and elegant red look, and made it modern and sexy.

Kate Hudson stole the limelight in a sparkling, body-hugging Michael Kors gown. Her hair was tied back in an elegant bun, letting all the attention stay focused on the dress. The small yet elegant train made the gown even more glamorous!

Last but not least, Rihanna looked absolutely royal in a cape gown designed by Guo Pei. The train was so long she almost needed the red carpet to herself! The embroidered satin dress with fur trims combined with her golden headpiece was certainly enough to capture everyone’s attention.

New York Fashion Week Trends you Can Incorporate into your Look Now

We saw a ton of warm turtleneck looks at the 2015 New York Fashion Week Fall runway shows.  We also saw a lot of layered looks.  An article by Julee Wilson in the Huffington Post tells us how we can make our clothes work overtime in any season by experimenting with layering.

Take a spring or summer dress, for instance, add a turtleneck underneath, and you’re all set for fall or winter. The picture below features a Banana Republic hot pink dress with a simple and classy grey turtleneck underneath it.  Feel free to wear your bright summery-colored garments in the winter when you add a warm neutral-colored garment into the mix.

Jill Stuart’s New York Fashion week runway show featured a look with a frilly, multicolored sleeveless dress and a long-sleeve turtleneck underneath it.  The thick black belt around the waist added an extra chicness that made the look extra stylish.

For an extra sexy look, try pairing a multi-colored dress with a sheer black turtleneck like in the image featured below from the Misha Nonoo runway show.  Again we see that a wide black belt can add an extra splash of style to any dressy look.

Does a Fitbit Fit into your Sense of Style?

Fitbits have been soaring towards ubiquity one wrist at a time.  Up until now, there’s been one crucial problem: they aren’t the most attractive wearable gadget.  But have no fear because Tory Burch is teaming up with Fitbit to overcome the style issue.

You shouldn’t have to compromise your fashion sense in order to take steps towards being more health conscious.  In today’s technologically advanced society, I can’t help but notice the merging of the functional and the fashionable.

Designer labels, such as Miu Miu and Lanvin, have been focusing on comfort and warmth without sacrificing their fashionable edge.  So why shouldn’t health conscious people be able to do the same?

Perhaps there are some examples of technology and fashion not merging together quite seamlessly, such as in the case of the commonly ridiculed Google Glass.  However, improvements are bound to be made and what was once considered weird or dorky, may soon be called fashionable.

With the help of Tory Burch, Fitbits will hopefully appeal to a broader audience of people, including those who haven’t jumped on the Fitbit bandwagon yet.  However, some people may still be skeptical.  Jon Fingas, from engadget.com states, “…it’s hard to see a truly style-conscious person picking these up in the first place, no matter how nice they look.”

Although I think that some fashionable people may still not want a Fitbit, I do think that it won’t be too hard to make a style-conscious person fall in love with wearing one.  After all, what is so embarrassing about wearing something that helps you track your fitness?

We wear watches for both a functional convenience and a fashionable statement, so why can’t Fitbits be designed to be both functional and fashionable as well?

Tory Burch and Fitbit are trying to make the activity tracker more suitable for fancy occasions.  Fingas feels that the $38 printed silicone bracelet designed by Tory Burch, won’t be enough to accomplish this task.  If you’re ready to spend a bit more money, there will also be a brass bracelet option for $195 or a pendant for $175 (shown below).

Despite which option you may favor, Fingas shares his doubts about the level of success of these fancier Fitbits.  What do you think?  Would you sport one of these Fitbit’s designed by Tory Burch, or would you track your activity some other way that doesn’t impinge on your sense of style?
