I can remember countless times when I’ve bought a piece of clothing or an accessory that I loved when I was in the store, but then I got it home and realized too late that it was not my style! We all know that feeling of looking at something we bought a few months later and saying, “what was I thinking?!” Nobody wants to be stuck with a closet full of items that you won’t wear. Even if you loved the item and got some use out of it, we all know that our tastes can change. Now, wouldn’t it be nice to make some cash from selling the items you know you won’t wear, and using that money towards buying new items that you will wear?
Firstly, your location can matter! The report showed that San Francisco, Brooklyn, NYC, Seattle, San Jose, Chicago, Houston, LA, Miami, and Portland have the most amount of online resale shoppers. Location, however, is just one of the few factors that can help you sell your used items.
If you’re looking to make a large profit on your items, there are certain designer brands that you should buy. These brands include, Diane von Furstenberg, Elie Tahari, J. Crew, James Perse, Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, and more. While a lot of fast-fashion items are resold as used clothing, designer label clothing tends to have a larger profit margin.
Schweitzer points out another important piece of information to consider when buying items that you may eventually want to sell. Stick to brands that are known for their quality and durability, such as BCBG Max Azria, Paige Denim, Splendid, and James Perse.
There are some brands that you’ll want to buy when you see them because they are the hottest-selling resale brands. These include, Burberry, Hollister, Gucci, Lululemon Athletica, Coach, Under Armour, TOMS, True Religion, and more.
Knowing which brands to buy is important, but knowing what kinds of pieces to buy is also helpful. There are some product categories that sell better than others. Surprisingly, jewelry did not make the list. However, in particular you should keep your eye out for seasonal pieces, leather skirts and pants, dresses, designer denim, shoes, and outerwear.
